Postdoctoral Research Fellow - AI for Autonomy in Surgical Interventions, CIR, Closing 10 March 2025

Join the Baillie Gifford Pandemic Science Hub to develop AI-driven autonomy for lung interventions, leveraging reinforcement learning, computer vision, and robotics for precise navigation and lung sampling. This role involves research on sensor-driven localization, mapping, and autonomous navigation, contributing to cutting-edge surgical robotics while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and disseminating findings through publications and conferences.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD in the area of machine learning for robotics
  • An excellent track record of publications in top-tier journals (e.g. IEEE Trans. or broad-interest science venues) and/or conferences in AI (e.g. IJCAI, AAAI, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR), robotics (e.g. R:SS, CoRL, ICRA), or allied areas
  • Excellent proven experience of developing field robotics systems involving robotic navigation
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, to meet deadlines, and to report on project progress
