Aurora

System details for the Aurora spectral flow cytometer.

QMRI Flow Cytometry facility Aurora

The Aurora is the latest addition to our facility.  It is a spectral analyser and should only be booked for high end experiments; incompatible fluorochromes, for example, those with highly overlapping emissions; or with its ability to analyse the autofluorescence of cells, it is useful where this is problematic.

Lasers

This is a 3 laser system: Violet, Blue and Red, each with a detection array.  Currently Side Scatter can only be measured from the Violet laser.

Detectors

The system incorporates APDs as detectors instead of the usual PMTs, thus giving added sensitivity for red fluorescence.  It is also reported that these detectors allow better discrimination of small particles, such as microvesicles.

Spectral Detection

As a spectral analyser, it does not rely on specific detectors for each fluorochrome, used within the experimental panel.  Therefore, we do not provide a configuration for this instrument.  However, if you would like more information about the optical detection and arrays, then please refer to the instruction manual, which is located beside the instrument.

As with all instruments sited in C2.36, it can be used for bacterial samples.
