IRR Director Professor Stuart Forbes has been honoured with a Chancellor’s Award for research excellence. The Chancellor’s Awards are one of the most important ways in which the University recognises current members of the University community. Across four categories the awards recognise those who have made outstanding contributions to teaching or research, achieved national and international recognition for their work, or made an outstanding contribution to the University's work in general. Dr Sally Shaw, Professor Judy Robertson, and Professor Michael Shipton are also 2025 Chancellor’s Award winners. The awards were presented by the Chancellor, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, during a gala dinner held this week at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The Lord Provost, Councillor Robert Aldridge, joined in congratulating the winners. Peter Mathieson Principal and Vice-Chancellor Stuart Forbes is Regius Chair of Medical Science (CMVM), Head of the School of Regeneration and Repair, Director of the Institute for Regeneration and Repair and a Group Leader in the Centre for Regenerative Medicine. Stuart received his Chancellor’s Award for Research in recognition of his outstanding reputation as a clinician scientist in the area of biomedicine, specifically liver regeneration, and for co-leading on the successful creation of the Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR). I am delighted to win the Chancellor’s award. I have been privileged to work with patients who have liver disease and seen the profound impact this has on their lives, which has motivated our research. I have the honour of working at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair with exceptional colleagues that continually inspire me and I truly see this award as reflecting their efforts also.
