The UK Space Biology Summit, held in Edinburgh, brought together researchers, industry, government, and representatives from UK and international space agencies to establish a co-ordinated vision for the future of UK space-life sciences. The UK is rapidly expanding its space capabilities, with Scotland playing a central role through new launch facilities such as SaxaVord Spaceport and Space Hub Sutherland. This summit highlighted the importance of ensuring that life sciences become an integral part of this growing ecosystem. Participants explored how the UK's internationally recognised strengths in biomedical and regenerative research can help address fundamental questions about how living systems respond to the space environment, while enabling innovations in human health, biotechnology, and future space exploration. The summit welcomed distinguished representatives from NASA (Dr Christina Johnson), the European Space Agency (Dr Rodrigo Coutinho de Almeida), the UK Space Agency (Elliott Jeffery), Scottish government (Suresh Kumar), UK Space Labs (Prof Simon Evetts), and Space Scotland (Dr Natasha Nicholson), alongside an outstanding line-up of industry and academic speakers from a range of difference fields. These included ecology, plant biology and microbiology; ageing, regeneration and astropharmacy; and synthetic systems.Together, they provided a comprehensive overview of the rapidly evolving UK and international space-biology landscape, highlighting current capabilities, emerging opportunities, and the importance of building a connected national community. Through interactive workshops and strategic discussions, attendees identified national strengths, key challenges, and opportunities for collaboration, laying the foundations for a co-ordinated UK Space Biology network.
