IRR Group Leader, Prof Marc Vendrell, has been recognised by the Society, receiving the Excellence in Research Award. These distinctions are among the most prestigious in Chemistry at the national level. Professor Marc Vendrell, Head of IRR Chemistry Hub, has been awarded the Research Excellence Prize at the 2026 Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) Awards. This is for his pioneering contributions to the design and synthesis of new chemical technologies for high-resolution bioimaging and translational medicine. The RSEQ is Spain’s leading scientific organisation in the field, and this distinction recognizes the recent scientific achievements of researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry.Prof Vendrell graduated in Chemistry at the University of Barcelona in 2007 before joining the Singapore Bioimaging Consortium. In 2012, he started his independent career as an Academic Fellow at the University of Edinburgh to bridge chemistry and medicine, and develop translational imaging probes. His research has been recognised with several distinctions and awards, including SEQT Young Investigator Award (2007), SBIC Chairman's Prize (2010), ERC Consolidator Grant (2017), Marcial Moreno Lectureship (2018), FLIER Fellowship from the Academy of Medical Sciences (2019), SRUK Emerging Talent Award (2019), and the Bader Prize (2023). Since 2020, he holds a Personal Chair of Translational Chemistry and Biomedical Imaging and leads the IRR Chemistry Hub at the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine in Edinburgh. In 2024, he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Scottish national academy. We sincerely congratulate Professor Vendrell on this well-deserved achievement.Vendrell research groupDynafluors website2026 Awards of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) Tags CIR Publication date 26 May, 2026
