300 Faces of Edinburgh Medical School exhibition

Faculty from the Institute for Regeneration and Repair have been included in a brand-new exhibition celebrating the people and history of the Edinburgh Medical School.

2026 marks 300 years of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. As part of a wider celebration, the University are honouring 300 people who have made an inspirational contribution and shaped the history of the school over its three-century long history. These faces have been nominated by University of Edinburgh students, staff and alumni.

The outdoor photo exhibition includes a selection of the 300 faces and tells the story of the people who have shaped Edinburgh Medical School’s past and present. The exhibition will be on display at the Mound until 26 April 2026 when it will relocate to Portobello Promenade until mid-June.

Represented in this exhibition are those who have made influential contributions to the Institute for Regeneration and Repair. This includes researchers, professional service staff and local community supporters:

Richard Anderson – Elsie Inglis Professor of Clinical Reproductive Science and the first in the UK to successfully transplant frozen ovary tissues into a woman recovering from cancer, allowing her to give birth.

Andrew Horne – Present director for the Centre for Reproductive Health and leading researcher in women’s health problems, with a focus on endometriosis and pelvic pain.

Wendy Power - IRR Receptionist and vital to the smooth running of the organisation and creating a positive environment of colleagues and visitors alike.

Cathy Southworth - Senior BioQuarter Education and Engagement Manager, supporting IRR researchers in collaborating with our local school community.

Ian Wilmut – The first director for the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and best known for leading the research team that cloned Dolly the sheep in 1996.
