IRR Seminar: Internal Speakers Spotlight on Patient and Public InvolvementChair: Elaine EmmersonPatient and Public Involvement (PPI) is becoming an increasingly important part of scientific/medical research and helps to guide research which is relevant, effective and ethical. By involving those with lived experience and the general public in discussion about research from the very beginning leads to better study design and more meaningful measures of success, and ultimately builds trust in scientific research. In this session you’ll hear from several researchers from across IRR who very successfully embed PPI into their research. They will share their experiences of where to begin, what works and what doesn’t, and how to appropriately pitch the language and detail for those involved. Confirmed Speakers1. Rocio Martinez Aguilar & Marianne Watters (postdoc and clinical PhD student, Maybin Group, CRH) – talking about their experiences of working with the Flow Right PPI group.2. Kev Dhaliwal (PI, CIR) – talking about the PPI work he and his team do in their Rare Respiratory Diseases (RRD) project.3. Rana Fetit (postdoc, Williams Group, CRM) – talking about her experiences of doing Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas (CODI) at the Fringe and the nursery/primary school workshops she does with children from underrepresented backgrounds, specifically focusing on how she uses art/languages to promote science.
