He returned to the UK to complete a PhD at Edinburgh University and specialist training in Haematology in Lothian. In 2007, he took up an academic appointment at Brighton and Sussex Medical School where he is now Chair of Haematology and also honorary consultant at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. His main research interest is acute myeloid leukaemia and in particular DNA methylation, clonal haematopoiesis, and novel therapeutic strategies.
